If the Walls Could Talk . . .

Every veteran teacher knows that there are times when students say and do things that make you want to laugh but you have to wait until later! In my case, when something happens during the day and my first thought is "I have to call my sister about this one!", I know that that exchange needs to be added to my journal. Here are just a few:

  • Today, while groups were supposed to be discussing Macbeth, Aaron called me over in an urgent tone and said that he had to give me something. He pulled out a business card and said that I needed to call his mom at her salon because he noticed that my hair color was a bit streaky and that she would be able to help me. Oy Vay. When did boys start noticing hair color?

  • Ms. Myers, to a student using his personal laptop computer during class without permission: "Spike, why is your laptop plugged into the school's Internet wall outlet?" Spike's reply: "Because the school's wireless Internet system isn't working today."

  • This Tuesday, a very sweet student named Cassie stayed after class to let me know that her friend had told her that I was having trouble with my 6th period class. I am having issues with them, but I would never admit that to a student. Well, Cassie offered to have her dad talk to his Army buddy and have that guy come to my class and "straighten them out"! Bless her heart! It was all I could do to not laugh--it took even more self-control to not take her up on the offer!
